Despite very tough relations and talks with their national federation, the players of the Canadian men’s soccer team will face Curaçao in a CONCACAF Nations League A match on Thursday at BC Place in Vancouver.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Canada Soccer said its players had resumed training the day before in preparation for the clash in question. They are also due to visit Honduras next Monday in San Pedro Sula as part of the same competition.

Head coach John Herdman’s players refused to play in Sunday’s friendly against Panama, saying they were not paid enough after the country qualified for the FIFA World Cup.

Last weekend, they said they were asking for compensation equivalent to 40% of the amount received by Canada Soccer from FIFA; it must give him $ 10 million by virtue of his presence at the 2022 World Cup. The president of the national federation, Nick Bontis, considered the proposal unacceptable financially.

However, the two parties concerned are continuing their negotiations in order to reach an agreement. The content of the most recent debates has not been disclosed.
