The presidency of the Bank of Montreal in Quebec will be assumed by Grégoire Baillargeon from 1er november.

He will succeed Claude Gagnon who will retire in the fall. Claude Gagnon, 65, took over from the late Jacques Ménard in 2018.
Aged 46 and currently Managing Director and Co-Head, BMO Capital Markets, Quebec, Grégoire Baillargeon joined BMO more than 17 years ago.
He will also assume the role of Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and will collaborate with Capital Markets to maintain and establish deep relationships with clients, in addition to supporting the development of the bank’s activities in Quebec.

In his current role at BMO Capital Markets, Grégoire Baillargeon acts as client relationship manager and advisor to large corporations.
He is responsible for some of the bank’s largest and oldest clients, advising them on mergers and acquisitions and equity and debt financings.
Prior to joining BMO in 2004, Grégoire Baillargeon was a corporate and securities lawyer. He notably worked as a lawyer at Telesystem International, after stints with the law firms Borden Ladner Gervais, in Montreal, and Winston & Strawn, in New York. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the Bars of Quebec, New York and Massachusetts.

Claude Gagnon will have spent his entire career at the Bank of Montreal since leaving university. He rose through the ranks one by one after he was originally hired in 1975 as a trainee with a view to becoming a branch manager.
The Bank of Montreal and its subsidiaries have 145 branches in Quebec and approximately 5,000 employees.
