National Indigenous Peoples Day | A television powwow for the solstice

More than a dozen musicians and singers, mostly Aboriginal, will take part in the television concert The Great Solstice premiered on ICI ARTV and APTN on June 20 and repeated the next day, on the occasion of National Indigenous Peoples Day, on ICI Télé and Télé-Québec.

Described as a “unifying pow-wow”, The Great Solstice will feature artists like Anachnid (Oje-Cree), Beatrice Deer (Inuk-Mohawk), DJ Shub (Mohawk), Scott-Pien Picard (Innu), Willows (Manitoba Métis) and Samian (Anishnihabeg). Ariane Moffatt and Émile Bilodeau, who invited several Innu friends to the Francos, will also be part of this show, whose artistic direction is by Elisapie Isaac and musical direction by bassist Amélie Mandeville.

The Great Solstice is the holiday that precedes the Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Canada Day celebrations, rapper Samian said in a statement. It is a great celebration of national friendship bringing together native and non-native artists which should be recognized and become part of the tradition of national holidays. »

This show will not be the only one to mark National Indigenous Peoples Day.
