Caregivers demonstrate everywhere in France, Tuesday, June 7, at the call of nine unions. The latter are worried about the lack of staff, which risks making the conditions of care catastrophic during the summer. They demand wage increases and additional recruitment.

In the midst of an emergency crisis, hospital caregivers are mobilizing across France on Tuesday, June 7. They demand wage increases and recruitment. “We will have to really invest in the public hospital, because at the moment, we have people who prefer to leave, because they are experiencing a real loss of meaning at work”explains Benoit Duhamel, secretary general of CGT 06 and nursing assistant at the Nice University Hospital (Alpes-Maritimes).

In addition to the loss of meaning, the white coats deplore a cruel lack of means on a daily basis. “They have come to have to go on strike simply to have stretchers, adaptables, infusion stands”, reports Dominique Batianelli, secretary general of the CGT at the Eure-Seine hospital center. At the hospital in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), the strike began on Monday June 6. “The public hospital and nursing homes have been deteriorating for more than 20 years. By dint of deteriorating, they are becoming dangerous for the population”warns Christophe Geffré, departmental secretary of the SUD Santé union, in Charente-Maritime.
