22-year-old driver charged

The young man suspected of wanting to flee a police check overnight from Saturday to Sunday in Vienna, was indicted on Monday for: violence with a weapon against a person holding public authority, refusal to comply aggravated by endangering the lives of others, concealment (for the stolen car), driving without a license and under narcotics… He was still hospitalized on Monday evening. He was still able to be heard by the investigators but preferred to remain silent, indicates the Public Prosecutor of Vienna Audrey Quey. Moreover, after checking the European file, it turns out that this young man of Algerian origin is 22 years old, and not 14 as he initially claimed. Known to the police, he has never been convicted.

Spotted by Viennese police officers on the night of Saturday to Sunday, he had tried to flee by car; the driver had hit two vehicles, including a police car. As the young man risked running over a police officer while trying to free himself, one of his colleagues opened fire. The shot did not hit the suspect. However, the latter had fainted when he got out of the vehicle, because of the accident. The policeman who used his weapon will be heard within the week, not by the IGPN (because there was no injury) but by the Departmental Security.
