Should the food voucher be reserved for the purchase of healthy and local products? With rising inflation, the issue is debated.

Should we help the French to eat healthy, local or organic products, or give them a boost regardless of the product purchased? Between mass distribution and short circuits, the debate on food vouchers is on the table. The food check was announced by Emmanuel Macron following the Citizen’s Climate Convention. The idea is to help the poorest households to eat better, while supporting French farmers. The measure was supported by 50 deputies in a gallery on Saturday June 4.

With inflation, however, priorities have changed. “You have money problems, a big problem with purchasing power, we will give you money but only to spend on more expensive products. No. Unfortunately, there are French people who need simply buy pasta or flour. (…) They seek to eat, not to eat better”notes Yves Puget, editorial director of LSA magazine.
