“If we want to be champions, we have to take a step forward”

Taken in the aggressiveness and then unable to concretize its highlights, the UBB missed the opportunity to take the flight directly to Nice. If she wants to go to the semi-finals, she will quickly have to remobilize against Racing. And singularly raise its level which was not worthy of its ambitions according to Christophe Urios. Interview.

What is your analysis after this defeat and this 3rd place?

Christopher Urios : First I want to congratulate this Perpignan team. She showed us that in terms of commitment she was very present. She put us in difficulty, especially in the first half. We weren’t conquering enough, we weren’t efficient enough close to the lines. There were sectors of the match which were bad, in particular the throw-in when we had made a great team to thwart them… It has the gift of inflating me. We find ourselves 3rd. In the second part of the season, we don’t deserve to be in the Top 2. We take a jump-off at home, we’re going to have to fight again, but it’s in line with what we’re doing in this moment. There are too many players again who didn’t perform today.

We discover everything. But at this level, you have to learn quickly. That’s what tires me.

Do you have questions about your players?

I wonder about my players every day. Third, it’s not bad but it’s not what we had expected. We are not serious enough, we play ball when we have to play hard, we play hard when we have to make passes. We play individually, our state of mind is not good for the match, I did not see a team. There will be a severe questioning because otherwise we will be bored in the quarter-finals and the season will end quickly.

Are you afraid of a backlash after this defeat?

I’m not afraid of anything. If we are not able to bounce back and bite in the quarter-final, that means we are not champions. I’m full of it. We’ve been saying yes, no, yes, no for six months. It tires me. I was wrong in the composition of the team for sure but it’s up to them to take the thing now. Today I am very disappointed and I do not say everything I think.

Does your team lack maturity?

We are not mature. We made three final phase matches, how do you expect us to be mature? We discover everything. But at this level, you have to learn quickly. That’s what tires me. We have internationals, guys full of ambition, we have to go fast… This afternoon Nadal was not in great shape, he was able to win the match easily. He’s a champ. If we want to be champions, we have to pass a milestone. And I don’t feel that…

A course that you thought you had passed this season?

I don’t want to take stock. Today we were beaten by a team that probably wanted to win more than us. We needed a draw. The match comes down to the last touch. What are we doing ? We’re all two meters, what do we do? There we took a hit on the carafe and it is not worth the mouth. The guys who make the mouth, I have nothing to shine. We’ll sleep here, we’ll leave at 7 a.m. so they’ll have their eyes on the holes and we’ll get back to work on Tuesday. What matters to me is how I will manage to mobilize myself next week. And how will I manage to transmit this energy to my players? Frankly, it is not won. It will take time to digest it.

Can your team bounce back against Racing?

I do not know. I would like the players to pass in front. This is the time for leaders to come out of the woodwork. It is the right time.
