(Ottawa) Canadians celebrated in their own way the 70 years of Elizabeth II on the throne of the United Kingdom… and of Canada.

A spokeswoman for Rideau Hall said the Governor General’s official residence had been the scene of many activities, including the creation by the Canadian Heraldic Authority of the Canadian coat of arms for the jubilee.
Governor General Mary Simon was in London over the weekend to join in the celebrations.
In May, the federal heritage minister announced $2.14 million in funding for celebrations and community projects marking Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
About thirty activities were planned in Quebec.
The City of Toronto says it has planted 70 large trees, one for each year of Elizabeth II’s reign, in Rowntree Mills Park. Mayor John Tory and Ontario Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell attended.
The president of the Canadian Indo Caribbean Organization of Ottawa, said his group had celebrated the jubilee of what he describes as “the heart of the Commonwealth”. About 300 people attended the party which included a meal and a concert by a pipe band.
The British High Commissioner to Canada, Susannah Goshko, had hosted a party at Earnscliff Mansion.
