Today and tomorrow, in Daon south of Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne, go to the intergenerational festival of Les Bouts de Ficelles for concerts with local groups and elsewhere, with the most diverse musical styles. In short ! it’s party time in Daon.
You can also combine your visit to Daon with a 13 km circuit which you will discover step by step with a map in the Mayenne on foot which is called Mayenne angevine. It is circuit 29 which invites you to cross the bridge and go up the towpath for another look at the right bank of our Mayenne river. On the hillsides, several old habitats: the former priory of Vaux with its 19th century walled park, the Château de Bréon with its classical layout and its terraced gardens, the 15th century Braye manor whose moat feeds into River. The plateau you are accessing gently sinks onto the Mayenne, witness to the old beds of the river, traces of which can be found in alluvium deposited in sand quarries from the wide variety of rocks in the department. But the river is also bordered by sandstone rocks in high cliffs which jealously guard a dense tree vegetation providing shade and humidity to a rare fern called dryopteris filix-mars. You will have a reproduction of it in the topo-guide. Beautiful day and beautiful hike!
