No injuries to deplore after the stormy episode which affected part of Occitania this Friday, June 3. Météo France had placed ten departments of Occitanie and New-Aquitaine in orange vigilance including Aveyron, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Lot, Hautes-Pyrénées, Tarn and Tarn-et-Garonne. The alert was lifted last night, but there is material damage, especially in the Gers.
Egg-sized hailstones
The Gers firefighters intervened about thirty times on Friday between 8:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. because of a very large hailstorm. Rescuers evoke hailstones “the size of an egg”.
The SDIS 32 (Departmental Fire and Rescue Service) was called for broken tiles and fallen trees on the roads. Strong winds also caused power outages.
A Condomin the north of the department, a mudslide caused the presence of 50 cm of mud in a house.
The opening of the Vic-Fezensac feria shifted
In Vic-Fezensac, the opening of the Pentecostavic feria, which kicks off the feria season, was originally scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. It had to be postponed to Saturday due to weather conditions. The event had been dormant for two years due to the pandemic.
Damage in the vines
This hail episode should also have consequences for Gers winegrowers. Philippe Dupouy, the president of the Departmental Council declared to bring all his “support for winegrowers and farmers affected by bad weather”. The chosen one published a message and photos on Twitter.
Some interventions in the Tarn-et-Garonne
Tarn-et-Garonne firefighters received many calls but only carried out four interventions in the Moissac sectormainly among individuals worried about seeing water stagnate in the streets: the rainwater networks have, in fact, saturated because of heavy rainfall.
