“I’ve been giving myself injections since I was 25”

Audience: You are publishing a book of hairdressing, beauty and look advice. Do you think we can replicate what you do on the show here?

Nicholas Waldorf: With the right tips, it is possible. I realized that people did not know what could suit them. They follow what they are told to do in the pubs, on the networks, but without knowing how to adapt it to their own morphology. My trigger for writing? When I saw a client come into my salon with burnt hair. She had applied a so-called magic color to go from brown to blonde and it messed up her hair. With my book, she would have understood that it took several steps to get to the shade she wanted.

Where did you learn the art of makeovers and hairstyling?

I was planning to study law when I met a hairdresser who literally blew me away. I was 16, I had just been dumped by my girlfriend at the time, I let myself go. My parents sent me to the hairdresser. And in the living room, there was this guy who rolled mechanics, tattooed all over and who was admired by all the customers. He immediately embodied power and success for me. I fell in love with him, we moved in together and he trained me in the trade.

Your parents must have hallucinated!

Rather yes ! My father is of Sicilian origin, my Vietnamese mother, they are both very conservative. When I told them, my mother fell to her knees saying to me: “Why are you doing this to me, you want to kill me?” I had no choice but to succeed to prove to them that it’s not a shit job. Then the guy left me and I promised myself to become the best hairdresser in France for him to regret. I work by challenge. Finally, luckily nobody supported me, otherwise I wouldn’t have fought like that.

Today, they got used to seeing you on TV?

Yes, they validate my career. And what’s great is that M6 gives me a lot of leeway to be exactly who I am in life. I remember that one day, we received a young woman on set for wedding dress fittings. And when I saw the outfits, I absolutely wanted to put one on. I slipped in, under the gaze of the cameras and I had tears in my eyes to tell myself that my family saw me in a dress on television and that I could be myself. On M6, a channel that I chose so that my grandparents, from their retirement home, could watch me. It is enormous. It is one of the moments that I will remember all my life.

“Ten years of not sleeping, drinking and partying”

Speaking of wedding dresses, are you tempted to get married?

My parents’ one didn’t work. They were too different. My dad thought he married a submissive Asian girl, but my mom had a fiery temper. Plates were flying around the house. During this time, I was blocking up with my brothers and sisters. However, I dream of getting married. I know one day it will happen, that’s for sure.

Prince Charming has already pointed the tip of his nose?

Since I have a little notoriety, my love life is more complicated. Paradoxically, it isolated me quite a bit. I ran into men who were interested in money or success and once we were together, they ended up leaving me. A few months ago, I finally met someone who doesn’t care about fame. He does something totally different, he lives in the provinces and it’s great.

Does a long distance relationship scare you?

No, that’s great. When I’m with him, I take full advantage of it and the rest of the time, I can devote myself to my job. I spend two days a week at the salon, four on set and there, I have just reopened my restaurant. I had to close it after the lockdowns because I was losing money. Since I don’t know anything about catering, I didn’t handle it very well. But now I have learned well and I have a great team.

“I was super disappointed after Loana’s makeover”

While working on TV, moreover in the field of aesthetics, have you ever felt the pressure to stay young?

The pressure, I put it on myself! I’ve been injecting since I was 25 and I’m not aging. For ten years, I haven’t slept, partied non-stop, drunk and done the 400 shots, but I hydrated well, practiced a little sport and I have a good dermatologist who uses microdoses of hyaluronic acid. . My face becomes skeletonized over time, so it puts the volumes back in place. And it works. Last week, I was on vacation with my identical twin brother. He did nothing, I did. We see the difference!

You gave Loana a makeover in Incredible Transformations. She said you ruined her hair…

I think it was a buzz race! She said that her hair had been cut very short, that she had been dyed brunette. It’s not true at all. I was super disappointed and the whole production too. For me, he’s an icon, we had an unlimited budget. I wanted her to be even more beautiful than when she was on the cover of the She. But when she arrived, she was half in the clouds. She was hovering. I think she didn’t really want to change. But it created such a bad buzz that the channel may not want to broadcast the episode anymore, even though it is one of the most legendary of the show! We are all a little sad.
