Created 17 years ago by Yves and Thérèse Sionneau, the Sauve qui plume association in Chanceaux-sur-Choisille, welcomes all birds and small mammals injured or too young to be independent. Spring is the most perilous season, especially for young birds which can fall from the nest, be victims of cats, for hedgehogs which can be victims of mowers (automatic in particular) or brush cutters and the association thanks to its volunteers, s currently cares for 127 small boarders (wagtails, birds of prey, squirrels, green woodpeckers, sparrows, swifts, hedgehogs…). The association currently welcomes very young kestrels, listen to them chirp as soon as we approach them, they think we are going to feed them!
Warming up, feeding until the little ones can manage on their own, is the daily life of Manon Cellier, animal caretaker at the association. The objective being to be able to release them as soon as possible without being impregnated by humans.. Thus, contacts are reduced to what is necessary and a whole protocol is put in place before the final release.
Call 02 47 55 18 06 before bringing the animals (telephone reception from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. except on weekends). As Manon Cellier explains to us, young feathered birds in particular are frequently fed by the parents on the ground so, if no danger threatens them, it is better to leave them where they are or put them up in the shelter of cats.
If you are sensitive to the cause of wild animals, you can support the association with a donation.
