The Ukrainian journalist-translator who accompanied Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff, killed Monday in Ukraine, assured Wednesday June 1 that their team had taken all possible precautions in such circumstances. In a post on her Facebook account, Oksana Leuta writes: “I am asked if all the safety rules had been respected (…) We followed an officially established route, with support, respecting all the rules.”
“We wore bulletproof vests and helmets, we were equipped with first aid kits and tourniquets, in an armored humanitarian vehicle which had to evacuate civilians”adds the fixer. “Could this tragedy have been avoided? Of course! If only Russia stopped bombing aid convoys, ambulance workers, civilians and journalists”continues Oksana Leuta.
She then pays tribute to the French journalist. “I will remember him as a sensitive, attentive, lively and dedicated person. His life was the price to pay for telling the truth about this warshe adds. His death is a terrible injustice. I deeply sympathize with Frederic’s friends and relatives. I understand and share your pain.”
