One of the most subtle inventions of modern times is surely that of war crimes. What is this war crime story? As if war itself, all wars, weren’t a crime?
But the makers of wars have invented this absurdity as if to clear their conscience: we can go to war, but under certain conditions which will still respect civilians, women and children. […] As if wars were fought far from people, in places where there are no civilians, women or children. As if wars only happened between soldiers! […] This is what the white poppy strives to express against the red poppy, which persists in paying homage to the soldiers who gave their lives to save the country. But the civilians, the women and the children gave nothing. They simply lost their property, their health and their life in unfortunate collateral circumstances.
To prove to the world that we mean well, we occasionally punish a poor little soldier who has shot a civilian. I know, we have also already punished and we still want to punish leaders who wage nasty wars. But others are waging “good” wars and no one will accuse them of anything, because it is well known that they are waging war for our good.
You will have understood that behind my text hides this young Russian man of 21 who will have to spend the rest of his life in prison to show the whole world that all the same, war is not a reason to do nothing. whatever! And beware, because we now have an International Criminal Tribunal that deals with war crimes and punishes those who flout the established rules. Big deal !
