This is sad news that has just hit Didier Deschamps. The former world champion and European football champion has just learned this Tuesday, May 31, 2022 of the death of his dad. The coach of the Blues had to leave Clairefontaine (Yvelines) in the middle of the day, to join his family in the Basque Country, where he is from. Pierre Deschamps, the father of the Basque, was notably third line at Olympic Biarritz in his youth. The date of the funeral has not yet been communicated, but, while waiting for the return of Didier Deschamps, it is his assistant Guy Stéphan who should take care of the training which is planned for this end of the day.
The players of the France team are currently gathered in Clairefontaine before playing four League of Nations matches between June 3 and 13, against Denmark, Croatia, Austria and again Croatia.
“It is with great sadness that I learned of the disappearance of Didier’s father this morning. Didier went to join his family and I assure him of all my friendship and my support in this ordeal.”, said Noël Le Graët, president of the French Football Federation, in a press release. “The coach has joined his family in the Basque Country“, specifies the FFF. “In this extremely painful moment for our coach, we are counting on you to respect his pain and his private life”, concluded the federation.
