A French journalist was killed in a bombardment in Ukraine while filming an evacuation of civilians in the country on Monday May 30. The news was given without precision at the start of the day by certain sources and was confirmed a few minutes ago by the Head of State Emmanuel Macron from his Twitter account. The image reporter Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff was “aboard a humanitarian bus alongside civilians forced to flee to escape Russian bombs” when he was “mortally wounded”, said the President of the Republic in a tweet.
Earlier in the day, the Reporters Without Borders association announced the disappearance of a French journalist “on the road between Lissitchansk and Bakhmout, in Luhansk Oblast”, not far from Severodonetsk, death confirmed by Serhiy Gaidai, the governor of the Luhansk region, in a press release. There are at least five journalists of different nationalities who have been killed in Ukraine since the beginning of the fighting and the invasion of Vladimir Putin’s soldiers.
Immediately after the Head of State’s official announcement on Twitter, indignant and bereaved reactions multiplied. “Frédéric Leclerc Imhoff, journalist 32-year-old image reporter, was following a humanitarian operation in an armored vehicle. He received a shrapnel. Hi Frédéric: (Thoughts with his family, loved ones and colleagues”, “One of my former students at the IJBA… he had incredible talent. How sad. A French journalist killed in Ukraine”, “His name was Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff, he did his job as a journalist in #Ukraine. For Comrade Adolf #Putinhis life was worth no more than that of the civilians massacred daily.”, “All my support and full of courage to the @BFMTV teams. My most sincere thoughts to the loved ones of Frédéric Leclerc-Imhoff: a brave journalist who died in the line of duty, present in #Ukraine to inform us and relay the realities of war.“, can we read on Twitter.
