Less than two weeks before the first round of the legislative elections, on June 12, the situation remains unclear in the second district of Mayenne. The outgoing MP Geraldine BannerMP Modem, is invested by “Ensemble”, the presidential majority group. Facing her, there will be Christophe Langouët, the current mayor of Cossé-le-Vivien. In 2017, the elected official withdrew his candidacy in favor of Géraldine Bannier, then supporting the one who became a member of the National Assembly. But this year, it is no longer the same story, which leaves voters doubtful.
Christophe Langouët decided to dissent and to maintain his candidacy by displaying himself without a label but “in support” of the presidential majority. A difficult situation to understand for the inhabitants of Cossé-le-Vivien, a town led by Christophe Langouët and Courbeveille, where Géraldine Bannier was mayor for more than three years. “I find that completely ridiculous! Peter gets annoyed. In his vegetable garden in Courbeveille, he does not understand. It’s going to be dispersed, it’s going to make another controversy that’s going to be completely stupid. Above all, there is a need to get along with each other and to walk together in the same direction.”
A situation that Jérôme does not understand either. He still does not know who to vote for and he would have liked to have only one majority candidate on the starting line : “I think there could have been a consensus, a fair agreement to avoid perhaps dividing the votes a little too much. It may be to the detriment of a third party who can stand out.”
The situation does not seem clearer six kilometers away, in Cossé-le-Vivien. In front of the town hall, Jacques is satisfied with the work of the outgoing deputy and he wonders why change: “I do not see why the mayor of Cossé, who is the president of the community of municipalities, the president of the municipality of Pays de Craon, departmental councilor, is seeking the place of deputy. It is personal ambition, period down the line. It’s not a political reason at all.”
