Among the migrants arrested in Poland, unaccompanied children are trying to find refuge in France.
In 2020, more than 9,500 unaccompanied minors had been placed in France, a decrease compared to the figures for 2019 (16,500). But there is a reason for these numbers: the crisis of Covid-19. The latter has greatly slowed down migratory flows. “In France, it is strictly forbidden to expel an unaccompanied minor from French territory. All this is decided in coordination with European laws and the international convention on the rights of the child “, explains Alexandre Malesson, journalist France Télévisions.
Minors therefore benefit from child protection. “But to get this child protection, you have to meet several conditions. The minor, when arriving in France, must report to the prefectural or departmental authorities. Then, he has an interview to present his situation. After this interview, he is sheltered for the time to verify his age and isolation. If the criteria are met, he is supported by Social Assistance for Children until he comes of age “, adds the journalist from France Télévisions.
