After more than three months of war, at least 242 children have been killed and around 440 injured in Ukraine, according to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine in a Telegram message (in Ukrainian), Saturday, May 28. These figures are not definitive as they do not take into account potential casualties in areas where fighting is still ongoing, or which remain occupied by Russian forces.

Most of the children were killed or injured in the Donetsk region (153), specifies the Ukrainian justice. In the rest of the country, 116 young victims were killed or injured in the Kyiv region, 108 in the Kharkiv region, 68 in the Chernihiv region and 51 in the Luhansk region. There were at least 49 casualties in Kherson region, 45 in Mykolayiv region, 28 in Zaporizhia region and 17 in Sumy region.

“On May 26, a 12-year-old boy died as a result of an enemy shell explosion in Mariupol, Donetsk region”illustrates the prosecutor’s office. “On February 28, a 17-year-old boy was injured in a car bombing in Kharkiv by the Russian army.” According to the Ukrainian courts, the bombardments and shelling carried out by the Russian forces damaged 1,888 schools and completely destroyed 180 of them.
