Fighting is raging in Donbass, which is still under a deluge of bombs. Journalist Luc Lacroix, special envoy to Severodonetsk (Ukraine), took stock of the situation on Friday 27 May.
“We are here at an outpost of the Russian military and their pro-Russian separatist allies”explains journalist Luc Lacroix, special envoy to Severodonetsk (Ukraine), in the Donbass, Friday, May 27. “It is this city that the Russians are trying to encircle at the moment”, he says. The region is one of the strategic objectives of the Russian army.
“From this position where we are, the Russians fire with tanks on the road that leads to Severodonetsk”continues the journalist. “We are not allowed to show you these tanks. The Russians do not allow us to do so because it could reveal their positions to the Ukrainians”he adds. “The objective is to cut this road to completely isolate the 10,000 Ukrainian fighters that there would be in this city of Severodonetsk”concludes Luc Lacroix.
