In the south of Ukraine, the Russian occupier is trying to accelerate the movement of “Russification” of the territories, as in the city of Kherson. Some residents decided to flee.
They come from all the regions occupied by the Russian army. Every day, more than 400 displaced people arrive at this supermarket parking lot in Zaporizhia (Ukraine). Olena and her daughter have just arrived. They fled Kherson, a city in southern Ukraine occupied by the Russian army since the beginning of March. “I don’t think many people will take Russian citizenship, Kherson is Ukrainian”says Olena.
The Ukrainian population tried to protest in Kherson, but the Russian occupier organized its own demonstrations. The Kremlin is trying to speed up the process of “Russification” of the occupied territories. Several hundred thousand inhabitants of the separatist territories have already received their Russian passports.
