“I stand in solidarity with the executive, the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, because the situation in which they find themselves is extremely embarrassing”, said Jean-Louis Bourlanges, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, invited Friday, May 27 on France Inter. The Modem candidate for the legislative elections in Hauts-de-Seine reacted to the retention of Damien Abad, the Minister of Solidarity, accused of rape by two women. A situation he judges “very delicate”.

Jean-Louis Bourlanges said he was convinced that the executive “measure” the tenor of the situation, recalling that the complaint filed in 2017 against Damien Abad was dismissed. “I trust the moral conscience of the Prime Minister and the President to make the best possible choice”he added, indicating that “the recent case came out after the appointment” of the minister but that, “If it’s true, it’s extremely important information.”

According to Jean-Louis Bourlanges, “there are two things we cannot accept” in that case.

“We can’t compromise, we can’t tolerate sexual violence, and at the same time, can we ruin a man’s reputation and career if it turns out that he is not guilty of this of which he is accused?”
