Seven cases of monkeypox have been detected in France. But the new Minister of Health, Brigitte Bourguignon, wants to be reassuring.

Having appeared in Africa, monkey pox continues to spread. More than 180 cases are now confirmed in sixteen countries around the world, and in particular in Europe. France has seven proven cases. Even if the symptoms seem impressive, the disease is not serious in most cases.

On Wednesday May 25, the new Minister of Health, Brigitte Bourguignon, tried to reassure about a possible spread of the virus in France. “We are now in a controlled and identified situation. We will continue to monitor this situation like the other European countries”, she said. Transmission of the disease is usually by rodents but can also be human-to-human via blood, body fluids and skin lesions.
