The story
On this desolate Ardèche plateau swept away by burle, in the 1830s, it is easy to imagine the fragile silhouettes of travelers on foot, bent under the effort and the gust of wind before arriving, with congested faces, in Peyrebeille… They say to themselves that they are lucky to find an imposing inn there which will shelter and warm them.
However, here we cultivated the art of crime and villainous enrichment rather than the art of hospitality.
Today the inn still exists, a survivor of the winter storms and the fury of men, planted like a relic or a mausoleum. For the victims and criminals guillotined in the courtyard…

Jean-Michel Cosson
A history teacher, he is passionate about the 20th century as well as “unofficial” history. He is the author or co-author of numerous books, including one History of the streets of Rodez, Aveyron seen from the sky, The Mysteries of France, The First World War – Unusual Mysteries and Stories Where Great criminal enigmas of France.
Jean-Philippe Savignoni
He works as a tour guide in Rodez. For several years, he has been collecting unusual testimonies and legends relating to the history of the capital. With Jean-Michel Cosson, they published, with De Borée editions, Major Criminal Cases in Aveyron, Major Criminal Cases in Auvergne and Notre-Dame de Rodez, open-air cathedral.
