Ryan Nugent-Hopkins broke the tie at 16:33 in the third period and the Edmonton Oilers came within a win of the Western Final on Tuesday, beating the Calgary Flames 5-3.
Up 3-1 in the series, the Oilers will have a chance to advance in the table on Thursday in Calgary.
Nugent-Hopkins gave the team a 4-3 lead by completing a brace.
Kailer Yamamoto rounded the net and spotted Tyson Barrie in the top slot. Barrie fired and Nugent-Hopkins converted the rebound.
Evander Kane completed in an empty net, with 24.9 seconds on the clock.
Kane also hit the target twice; he is the leader with 12 goals in the current playoffs.
The Flames’ Mikael Backlund had threatened shortly after teammate Rasmus Andersson was penalized for a high stick, 47 seconds after Nugent-Hopkins’ second goal. This one had scored a first goal just 21 seconds after the initial face-off, the result of a blunder by Jacob Markstrom.
Zach Hyman was the Oilers’ other scorer.
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl each had two goals, while Mike Smith made 29 saves.
McDavid leads the series with 25 points.
Backlund, Andersson and Elias Lindholm fought back for the Flames.
Andersson tied the score 3-3 midway through the third period on what looked like a clearance.
Markstrom blocked 21 shots.
