They are 6293 to dream of settling in one of the 577 seats of deputy. “The eye on the campaign” scanned the candidacies for the legislative elections. Who are all these candidates? Here is their robot portrait.
Candidates for the legislative elections are mostly men: nearly 56%. All the major parties are approaching parity… with the exception of the Republicans, who have invested significantly more men (64%), for only 36% of women.
A legislative candidate is on average 49 years old. The youngest turned 18 last month. The two deans have just blown out their 92 candles.
Are the candidates in the image of the population? Regarding the social environment, not really. In France, there are 11% of executives and business leaders. But much more among the legislative candidates: 45% of executives… And even 66% among the candidates of the presidential majority. Far-left candidates have the highest proportion of workers.
Among outgoing deputies, 78% are standing again. This is more than in 2017, when only 60% of the hemicycle had put its mandate back into play. Will this election succeed in mobilizing voters? The first round will be held on Sunday, June 12.
