Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined an international concert of condolences on Wednesday following the shooting death of 19 children at an elementary school in a small town in Texas on Tuesday afternoon.

Passing through Vancouver on Wednesday, Mr. Trudeau said that all of Canada was mourning the tragedy of Uvalde, a community of 16,000 people located just west of San Antonio.

Tuesday’s shooting, which also claimed the lives of two adults, comes less than two weeks after a gunman killed 10 black people at a Buffalo grocery store.
And it echoes the massacre 10 years ago at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Pennsylvania that claimed the lives of 20 children and six adults – a tragedy that failed to spur significant gun control efforts in the United States.
The Texas horror is sure to dominate debates in the Senate, where President Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is expected to testify before a committee.

Mr. Biden had addressed the nation Tuesday from the White House just hours after the shooting, in a moving, anger-tinged speech — a speech he hoped he would never have to deliver, he said. .
