Monday, May 23, the 20 Hours presents municipalities that have already distributed food vouchers, to help residents cope with inflation.
Some town halls have distributed purchasing power checks to help their inhabitants. With an agricultural pension of 900 euros per month, this help is welcome for Bernadette Chacornac. She received a check for 30 euros, usable for her shopping. “Everything rose, everything, even the pasta. It helped us a lot (…) I have my companion, I have my son, so all three together, that’s a sum“, she assures. This boost, without income or age conditions, costs 4,000 euros to the municipality.
“The feed has increased terribly over the past few weeks, months, and I think that’s just the beginning. So we bet on the check for food“, explains Lionel Buchet, mayor of Saint-Arcons-de-Barges (Haute-Loire). In Hélesmes (North), the 2,000 inhabitants received 30 euros in vouchers. “We are all aware that it will not upset people’s lives (…) if we could have done more, we would have done it“, says Stéphanie Hugues, mayor of Hélesmes (North).
