The violent storms that swept across Quebec and Ontario on Saturday killed nine people, according to the latest report from the authorities. More than 250,000 people are still without electricity in the province.

Only one victim has been listed in Quebec, a 51-year-old woman who died when the boat she was in capsized in the Ottawa River, near Masson-Angers, during Saturday’s storm.
No other information on people injured or killed has been reported in the province, according to Béatrice Dorsainville, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.
In Ontario, the death toll stands at 8 victims. Seven people died from falling trees in locations across the province during the storm on Saturday, and an eighth was killed by a falling tree branch in the aftermath of the storm on Sunday.
Hundreds of thousands of people without electricity
In Quebec, at the height of the event, some 550,000 customers were without electricity, indicated Hydro-Quebec. Sunday evening, 261,097 customers were still deprived of it.
“Work continues on the ground where our teams are seeing significant damage caused by strong winds and storms,” the state-owned company tweeted Sunday evening. With more than 500 teams currently on the ground, work is progressing well. »
On Twitter, Quebec Premier François Legault thanked the workers of Hydro-Québec: “The storm did a lot of damage in several regions, particularly in the Laurentians and in the Outaouais. In Ontario, Sunday evening, more than 221,000 Hydro One customers were without power.
