On Wednesday, May 18, 19/20 presents two initiatives to reduce air pollution. The first is a machine that purifies the air, the second trees that eliminate fine particles.
To clean up the air, Matthieu Gobbi, managing director of the Aérophile company, had the idea of measuring pollution from a balloon. “We saw that these fine particles, therefore this carbon, were deposited on the canvas of the balloon and soiled it very quickly. We discovered a system which makes it possible to get rid of these particles”, he explains. This machine is a world first. It sucks in polluted air and then spits out clean air.
In the laboratory, the machine removes 99% of fine particles. These are placed on the plates of the machine. In Aix-en-Provence (Bouches-du-Rhône), tree species effective in eliminating fine particles and toxic gases have been planted. The 408 trees go “allow an estimated reduction of one premature death per year and a reduction of ten hospitalizations for cardiovascular and respiratory causes”says Pierre Sicard, researcher and director of the Airfresh project.
