Favorite: The mask, against all odds

There is a certain merit in wearing the mask at the Palais des festivals, even in theaters, where festival-goers from all over the world find themselves neck and neck. To tell the truth, it is above all the North Americans and the Asians who dare to defy the glares of their seat neighbors, mostly Europeans, who stubbornly refuse to do so, with a vague feeling of guilt. Rant: The Black Helmet on the Croisette

The filmmaker Joachim Trier, member of the jury of this competition may well salute the sophistication of the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, but the Croisette has a kitsch side which dishonors the portrait to him. Every year in front of the Grand Hotel, huge promotional toys compete in vulgarity to advertise Hollywood mega-productions.
