Sunday, May 15, the news de 13 Heures focuses on the sniffer dogs used by the national gendarmerie to search for missing persons.
Sniffer dogs are an asset of the national gendarmerie. “When the dog has his nose on the ground, his ears drag on the ground. They form a sort of funnel, a cone that will concentrate, bring the odors back to his nose.“, explains a dog handler of the gendarmerie. The dogs thus help in investigations, to find missing persons. Its muzzle allows it to sniff out tracks, sometimes up to seven days after a disappearance.
Within minutes, the dog was successful in the exercise. In France, the national gendarmerie has 20 Saint-Huberts. They are called for several missions or for tracking, like that of a former soldier on the run, in May 2021. “This is not a classic mission, we are looking for someone who wants to hurt you”testifies a policeman who participated in this research. He remembers his dog being a source of comfort.
