“At 5:02 a.m. this morning, we had a big thunderclap in the town,” says the mayor of Bretteville-en-Saire, Jean-Paul Maze, “and at the same time I had an alert from our remote monitoring system which told me that at the municipal workshop, we had a loss of power supply.” The surveillance service informs the elected official that there is a fire starting and that the firefighters have been notified.
The firefighters manage to quickly extinguish the fire but the damage is significant. “Our collective locker rooms had just been refurbished, there everything is to be put in the air and to start again,” regrets the mayor. The roof of the building was also damaged. Lesser evil: the municipal equipment, that is to say the tractors and trucks, were able to be taken out in time and preserved from the flames. The cost of repairs should be significant for the municipality, which just for the changing rooms had just paid 20,000 euros.
The department is in orange vigilance for thunderstorms this Sunday. The prefecture of La Manche calls for caution.
