The war in Ukraine will be at the heart of the 66ᵉ edition of the Eurovision Song Contest which takes place on Saturday 14 Mayi at Torino, in Italy. Ukraine is already the big favourite.
In front of the Sports Palace in Turin (Italy), there is already a long queue. In the audience, many Ukrainians came to convey a message. “They represent our united country and send a message of peace. That’s why we have to support them.”assures a man. “We want to say that we are still standing in the middle of this war”comments another.
Identity checks are rigorous. 15,000 people will attend the Eurovision final. The police inspect every corner. The Ukrainian group rehearses their song one last time, a mixture of hip-hop and traditional folk rhythm. The title has become a symbol of resistance. “We are here to show that Ukrainian culture and music are still alive and that they have a beauty, a particular signature”said Oleh Psiuka vocalist of the group. In Russia, the show will not be disseminated, because Russia was excluded from the competition. A decision that divides the Russians.
