It’s back: the European Night of Museums opens the doors of 3,000 museums in France. In the Dordogne, eight museums are taking part in the operation, access to which is free. In addition to the exhibitions, there are also activities for young and old alike. This year, students took part in the event “La classe, l’oeuvre!” around a work of art or an object in the museum.
What are the participating museums in the Dordogne?
National Museum of Prehistory in Les Eyzies. From 6 p.m., festive evening in the footsteps of wild horses with visits, workshops and screenings. In the permanent exhibition rooms, between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., Gérard Chabert and the company Le Diable Par La Queue, will present an original installation on horses. For children, between 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., at Camp des petits Sapines, you can have your face painted while listening to stories.
Fernand Desmoulin Museum in Brantôme. Admission is free from 9 p.m. Visit the Last Judgment Grotto as well as the museum.
Museum of Art and Archeology of Périgord in Périgueux. From 7 p.m., attend concerts, dances, theatre, treasure maps and visits to exhibitions. Ginette Rebelle gives you an appointment at 9 p.m. and will perform a punk/rock/accordion repertoire. In the evening, a treasure hunt to find a chest full of gold coins is organized for families.
Vesunna, Gallo-Roman site-museum in Périgueux. Under the stars and from 9 p.m., the museum invites you to a relaxing and bewitching sensory experience. Remember to take a plaid and a cushion!
Tobacco Museum in Bergerac. Meet at 7 p.m. for a commented and guided tour by young students as part of the “La classe, l’oeuvre” action. Free visits are also included.
André Voulgre Museum in Mussidan. The occasion of an opening of the exhibition “At the heart of the Double” on the sculptor, ceramist and painter Lilian Longaud at 7:30 p.m. Then from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., there will be an acoustic folk-pop concert by Alex & JAC in partnership with Autour du Chêne.
Bovetti Chocolate Museum in Terrasson. Meet at 7:30 p.m., 8:15 p.m. and 9 p.m. for a guided and gourmet tour. Only by reservation on 05 53 51 81 53.
Bastideum in Monpazier. The museum offers you a theatrical visit of the Bastide. Price: 5 euros.
