After the shooting death of a Palestinian journalist in the West Bank, demands for an independent investigation are increasing, particularly from the UN.

Live from Jerusalem, journalist Claire Duhamel takes stock from the entrance to the home of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was shot in the head on Wednesday May 11. “Many people came tonight to pay their respects. Just now they were singing ‘freedom, freedom’,” she said, as calls for an independent investigation grew during the day.

Al-Jazeera, a Qatari channel, accuses the Israeli authorities of deliberately killing the journalist. “That’s not what Naftali Ben saysnett, the Israeli Prime Minister, since according to him, she was probably killed by gunfire from armed Palestinian militants on the sidelines of this military operation which was therefore held in Jenin“, she continues. The victim also had an American passport. The United States demanded that an independent investigation be carried out, as did the UN and France.
