Thursday, May 12, 12/13 wonders about the solidarity of the French, undermined by high inflation rates. Some are less generous.
With inflation, the French are less generous. On average, in 2021, they gave 274 euros per person, which represents 30.6% less compared to 2020. Some point the finger at the rise in prices. “I still give, but actually, I don’t have the means”, says a woman. For others, solidarity is still important. “Prices are rising, but there is always something left to give”assures a man.
The number of donors should remain the same in 2022, but one in four intend to give less. “Before the Covid we had 90 families per week, it went up to 100, but never beyond. And now we are at 140 families”notes Philippe de Missolz of the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul association. “It will have an impact on our big collection in November”warns Laurence Champier, director general of the French Federation of Food Banks.
