Last game in National for Stade Lavallois this Friday, May 13 before saying goodbye to this championship. This is a trip to Orleans (10th). These two teams have nothing to play for in the standings. The Mayenne club have been champions since last week after their draw against Red Star.
But there will be a match within a match with the incredible race of National’s top scorers. Among the attackers in the running for the honorary title, there is the Lavallois, Geoffray Durbant. The player, who will turn 30 next week, has scored 17 goals since the start of the season (4th place in the standings). But everything could change on the last day of the championship. It is therefore not yet the holidays for Geoffray Durbant: “We will try to finish in the best possible way. Personally, I have a top scorer title to go for, even if it won’t be easy, but I’ll do everything for it.“
“If I manage to beat this record, it’s a bonus”
Concarneau striker Fahd El Khoumisti leads the scoring charts with 19 goals. Another challenge, there is still a match for Geoffray Durbant to do as well or better than Christian Bekamenga and his 18 goals in 2014 under the Laval jersey: “It’s always good to beat the record of former attackers who have passed through Stade Lavallois. After 18, 19 goals, whatever happens, we won the championship. Our name will be engraved. Personally, if I manage to beat this record, it’s a bonus. I may have a small statue! We’ll see.“
Many players from the standard team will be rested this Friday evening, but coach Olivier Frapolli will play the game concerning the Guadeloupe striker: “Of all the guys who have played a lot, I think he’s the only one who still has that motivation so obviously it’s something we’ll think about because Geoffray wants to finish the job.“
Scorer or not against Orléans, Geoffray Durbant will have greatly contributed to the rise of Stade Lavallois this season. It will then be time to sign his first professional contract.
