Housed in the former storage shed of the Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne fishing club, the Harbor Master’s Office has completely transformed the building to become a bar-brasserie. Five months of work were needed to enlarge and recreate the space. “We started on a new projectsummarizes Antoine Moreau, owner of the Capitainerie. Inside, we can now accommodate fifty people, which still allows you to enjoy the view of the port, because we have created large bay windows that open completely. You can see as far as the Saint-Jean church and you can also see the hospital.“
Changes also in the look of the bar-restaurant. “We changed everything for once, we put wood, mainly paneling on the ceiling, we clad the walls with wood and we also made an oak bar“, adds Antoine Moreau. Outside, large burgundy parasols protect deckchairs from the sun’s rays. Tables and chairs, as well as barrels have been placed on the banks of the river, to make a guinguette.
“An air of vacation at the water’s edge”
“The idea is to both satisfy our local customers and tourists. So, we think of people who come from Château-Gontier and the surrounding area, that when they leave work or when they have a moment of rest, they can find an air of vacation at the edge of the water and recharge their batteries. And also the tourist clientele, with the nearby towpath, bike rental, walkers and boats”explains Antoine Moreau.
For this, it offers a wide range of hours, with a continuous service from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and only one closing on Monday until June, as well as concerts every Friday evening.
