Collège Montmorency’s internal computer system has been down since Wednesday morning. After a preliminary analysis, the Laval college suspects a possible intrusion into its network.

“Information leads us to believe that the integrity of our IT infrastructure seems to have been compromised,” management said in a statement sent to its community.

Deeming the threat serious, the CEGEP contacted the Laval police and enlisted the help of the Quebec cyber defense operational center, the Ministry of Cybersecurity and Digital and an external cybersecurity firm.

At this stage of the analysis, it is too early to guarantee that no prejudice has been caused to the College’s data.

In this context, management invites its community to be extra vigilant, by avoiding opening any e-mail from an unknown sender.

Courses surveyed

As the internet network was also down, the College took the decision to suspend classes on Thursday. Some activities, such as internships, are however maintained.

“The day will serve to better identify the issues, target the potential impacts and thus take the right steps to remedy the situation quickly, making it possible to reduce as much as possible the main negative impacts linked to this exceptional situation”, it is specified in the report. communicated.

The breakdown occurred at the end of the session, and the College reassured the student population that everything would be done to minimize the impact on the progress of the final exams.

More details to come.
