The WHO speaks “of a devastating step” crossed. More than two million people have died of Covid-19 in Europe, the long epicenter of the pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Thursday May 12. The most bereaved country on the planet, the United States has passed the one million death mark, the White House announced on Thursday. After a rebound in the first half of March, the coronavirus pandemic is regressing in Europe. The number of cases and deaths have fallen by 26% and 24% respectively in the past seven days.
More than two years after the first restrictions, most European countries therefore intend to turn the page on Covid-19 and few limitations remain. In France, for example, wearing a mask will no longer be compulsory in public transport from Monday.
