In Ukraine, on Tuesday May 10, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the withdrawal of Russian troops from the region of Kharkiv, the country’s second city, which has been bombarded since the end of February. Anaïs Hanquet, special correspondent for France Télévisions is on site on Wednesday.

Anaïs Hanquet, special correspondent in Ukraine for France Télévisions, was in one of the liberated localities in the Kharkiv region on Wednesday May 11. She met relieved residents there, but some of them wanted to flee. “For the first time, we were able to access a village located less than two kilometers from the front line, a village liberated less than three days ago by the Ukrainian army”says Anaïs Hanquet.

The situation there remains dangerous, even if there are no more Russian soldiers, “because of the bombardments”reports the journalist who says she heard several missile shots, “consequence of this counter-offensive launched by the Ukrainian army to push back the forces of Vladimir Putin”. The inhabitants shared their daily life during the occupation by the Russian army. “A woman, for example, explained to me that her grandson had been kidnapped by soldiers, and that since then she had no news”says Anaïs Hanquet.
