The mask in transport is almost over. The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, announced on Wednesday May 11 the end of this obligation, put in place against Covid-19, from Monday May 16. The epidemic situation is improving, the pandemic is not over, but the number of new daily diagnoses is decreasing and we consider that it is no longer appropriate to maintain this obligation to wear a mask in public transport, from from Monday, May 16, said the minister.

Contaminations and hospitalizations are currently down sharply, even if scientists warn that the epidemic is probably not over, especially in the face of the threat of a new variant. Tuesday, May 10, 56,449 new cases were reported, i.e. 37,637 cases per day on average over the last 7 days. On the same day, 1,167 people entered the hospital and 1,364 patients are currently in intensive care or intensive care. Since the start of the epidemic, 146,979 people have died from Covid-19 in France.

This measure was one of the last in force in the face of the pandemic. After the end of the mask in transport, some restrictions will still be maintained. A “health” pass – distinct from the vaccination pass because it also works in the event of a recent negative test – will remain required to access health establishments, and isolation of at least one week will always be imposed after a positive test. At the hospital level, unvaccinated caregivers, who cannot currently exercise their activity, will not be reinstated immediately, but the government will ask itself the question.
