Home fragrances emit a fragrance that is supposed to mask odors, but some of them are said to be unhealthy. Journalist Dorothée Lachaud take stock, on set of 1 p.m., Tuesday, May 10.

The air in homes is often more polluted than the air outside and certain interior fragrances could be harmful to health. For example, air fresheners. “Certainlythey mask odors, but they also project toxic particles which remain in suspension for hours, and therefore likely to create allergies”explains journalist Dorothée Lachaud on the set of 13 Hours, Tuesday, May 10. Some may even contain formaldehyde, a substance classified by health authorities as a carcinogen.

Same alert for candles, which you have to be wary of, because “a lot of them contain paraffin, a substance derived from petroleum and it is again classified as carcinogenic by scientists. And if, in addition, the candle has a synthetic fragrance, that’s really a bad combo, because the toxic properties will increase with the combustion”, reports the journalist.
