Islanders fire head coach

(Long Island City) The New York Islanders have fired head coach Barry Trotz, president and general manager Lou Lamoriello announced Monday.

Trotz went 37-35-10 last season at the helm of the Islanders, who were shut out of the playoffs after finishing ninth in the Eastern Conference.

Trotz, who will celebrate his 60and birthday in July, had just completed his fourth season with the Islanders. He compiled a record of 152-102-34 while on Long Island.

In his NHL career, he posted a record of 914-670-60-168 as head coach of the Nashville Predators (1998-2014), Washington Capitals (2014-2018) and Islanders (2018 -2022).

Trotz also won the Jack Adams Trophy, awarded to the most outstanding head coach, twice, in 2015-16 and 2018-19, and won the Stanley Cup with the Capitals at the end of the 2017 season. -18.
