A little girl who directs some sixty musicians from the Opéra national de Lorraine on the advice of the conductor: here is an example of a workshop offered to the curious who have come to discover the place. “You try to give us something with a lot of energy like you’re taking something and throwing it at the orchestra,” explains the chef Marc Leray Calatayud who leads the activity Take the wand.

In the foyer of the opera, visitors slip into old stage costumes. “In fact, we have the impression of being princesses”, they rejoice. The opera’s dressers help them put on these imposing pieces that took hours and hours to make. “Can we breathe with that?”, asks another. “People get into a character. I never get tired of it”, enthuses Asseya Merabet, in charge of costumes at the Opéra de Lorraine.

Putting yourself in the shoes of an opera character also means going through a make-up session. A workshop for children. “It shows the audience how we can do it, how long it takes, what kind of character we can create”, testifies Mélodie Scagnoli, make-up artist. This Sunday, May 8, visitors are invited to give voice by singing with the Chorus of the Opera. A moment certainly unforgettable for the happy participants.
