The Fabulous Ascent of the Ardéchoise – 30 years of legend pays tribute to each of the participants and volunteers in this festive and difficult event for convicts on the road.
GERARD MISTLER
Born in a village in the Haut-Rhin, he has always had cycling in his skin and also the vocation of becoming a teacher. From the age of 21, he began to teach in Auch (Gers), then at the École Normale de Paris and in Pas-de-Calais. Wishing to get closer to the Alps and its great passes, he joined the Academy of Grenoble to be appointed in Ardèche, in Annonay. In this first college, he founded the cyclo-club Marmaty Boissy d’Anglas. A builder at heart, he bought, at the age of 29, a house in ruins on the heights of Saint-Félicien. At 40, appointed to the LEP Bouvet (bac pro) in Romans-sur-Isère (Drôme), he likes to complete the journey by bike (100 kilometers round trip). The plan to create a cycling event takes shape. The one who scoured the deep-distance cyclosportive races of the 1970s continues to pedal, favoring endurance efforts.
DOMINIQUE FOURAISON
Former journalist, head of the Drôme-Ardèche sports department of Dauphiné Libéré for 25 years, he spent his early years in Saint-Donat-sur-l’Herbasse. He grew up in Saint-Étienne, then the capital of cycling but also of football. Dominique closely follows the great era of the Greens of AS Saint-Étienne. After studying law, he embarked on a career as a journalist in Valence. His taste for sport naturally pushes him to survey the grounds, all disciplines combined. He discovered a passion for triathlon and his attraction to cycling finally materialized. He will also participate in the first edition of the Ardéchoise, then in many others. Secretary of the office of L’Ardéchoise, he maintains a strong link with “the most beautiful of cyclosportives”.
