Just over thirty people gathered outside the Montreal office of Prime Minister François Legault on Friday evening to demand more ambitious environmental policies.

“We really want science to be listened to,” says Kareen Guillaume, coordinator for the Mothers at the Montreal Front, the group behind the vigil at the foot of 770 Sherbrooke Street West. “That has to change, because without a political decision, we can do whatever we want at the individual level, nothing will ever change. »
“We are mothers, grandmothers, great-grandmothers, and we stand up for our children,” reads a statement released by Mothers at the Front. “We demand fundamental, immediate and concrete changes” to deal with climate change.
The Legault government is aiming for a 37.5% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990, a target it is on the way to missing.
“There is no commitment” on the part of the current government, denounces Denise Cotte, a participant in the watch for whom the deadlines for reducing our greenhouse gas emissions are too long. “There is nothing concrete. »
“I would like François Legault to understand the urgency of acting,” adds Laure Teyssadou, mother of a five-year-old boy. She moved “for future generations, I’m here for my son”, she concludes.
