If all of humanity lived like the French, it would have already consumed all the resources available on Earth. A symbolic date, but which remains alarming.
This calculation takes into account the land and sea areas needed to produce our resources and the earth’s ability to regenerate. Result: 2.9 planets would be needed to meet the needs of all humanity with our current way of life.
Created in 1961, Overshoot Day fell on September 26, 5 months later than today.i. According to the WWF association which made this calculation, it is still possible to push back this fateful date. While the IPCC report points to ever more alarming consequences for the climate, Emmanuel Macron received scientists and associations at the Élysée to prepare his ecological planning, discuss measures and possible solutions to reduce our footprint as much as possible and to limit warming.
