COVID-19: CNESST reduces recommended minimum distance to 1m in offices

While many employees are resuming face-to-face work, the minimum distance between people recommended by the CNESST is decreasing from two meters to one meter indoors.

However, the Committee on Standards, Equity, Health and Safety at Work specifies that if this distance cannot be respected, workers must continue to use personal protective equipment or a physical barrier.

In order to ensure a good transition back to the office, the CNESST also encourages workplaces to turn to a hybrid formula, face-to-face and teleworking.

It is also suggested that employers adopt a return to office protocol.

The CNESST notes that the employer must implement various preventive measures, in particular the development of a procedure for excluding symptomatic people.
